Endometriosis

Endometriosis affects approximately 10% (200 million) of reproductive-age women worldwide, with prevalence sometimes reaching 50% among those with infertility. One factor known to be involved in pathogenesis, progression, and establishment of endometriosis is oxidative stress. It is a chronic, immune-mediated inflammatory disease driven by ectopic endometrial-like lesions that initiate a sustained inflammatory cascade characterized by cytokine release (IL-6, TNF-α), prostaglandin production, immune dysregulation, and neuroangiogenesis.

Pre-term labor

Pre-term labor (labor before 37 weeks) affects roughly 1 in 10 infants globally (approx. 15 million) and is the cause of at least 75% of neonatal deaths. More than 1 million infants die from subsequent complications within the following 5 years. Pre-term labor caused by uterine contractions is a major contributor to neonatal morbidity and mortality — caused by regular uterine contractions that cause the cervix to open (dilate) or thin (efface) too early.

Polycystic ovary syndrome

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common hormonal disorders affecting women of reproductive age, impacting up to 10% of women worldwide. PCOS is characterized by hormonal imbalance, irregular menstrual cycles, and the presence of cysts on the ovaries. It is a leading cause of female infertility and is associated with significant long-term metabolic and cardiovascular risks, yet remains widely undertreated and misunderstood.
